Free Voice Lessons for Teacher Testing Season

IVA Institute for Vocal Advancement Singapore Korea - Help be our student for our yearly testing and get a free lesson in the process.png

It's once again the time of the year for… FREE voice lessons!

September and October is when most of us IVA-certified (Institute for Vocal Advancement) teachers normally do our yearly testing for advancing to the next level in our certification.

And since we can’t teach our own students for the tests, we’ll need to find new students we’ve never taught before who would be happy to help out in exchange for the free coaching.

What We Need

1. Test Students: In a 20-30 min lesson (with an IVA Master Teacher lurking in the shadows via Zoom or Skype), you will get your voice assessed, and be given a set of vocal exercises with the goal of improving your vocal technique for singing. If there is extra time, you might get to work on a song.

(Note: You must be a first-time student for whoever you're a test student for.)

2. Practice Students: Some of you might be picked to help us practice for our tests (instead of the real testing). Lessons may be 20 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the teacher and what they need.

How it Works

Step 1: Fill out the form below with your details

As we have specific requirements for our test students, e.g. gender, vocal development level and availability, having these information upfront would help make the matching process a lot more efficient.

Step 2: Wait for a teacher to reach out

If you meet the requirements, one (or more) of us will reach out to you to make arrangements for a session either in September or October 2021. We may ask you to be a practice or test student.

Step 3: Get assessed for suitability (for test students only)

We may also need a separate session (with another teacher you’re not gonna help for their test) to assess your ability to sing on pitch and rhythm, and whether you can sing the scales with only leading chords.

Step 4: Pay a fully-refundable deposit upon confirmation (refunded after lesson)

For test students: To protect ourselves from no-shows or last minute cancellations, we will be collecting a fully-refundable deposit of SGD 120 (that’s what we pay the Master Teachers for 30 mins!). This will be refunded to you on the day of the lesson, after it has been carried out.

For practice students, the deposit will be SGD 50.

If you have to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be able to get a refund only if it’s a minimum of 2 days (48 hours) in advance.

Step 5: Attend your lesson

If you’re selected as a test student, you’ll be asked to turn up 15 minutes before the actual session for a final audio and video check.

Have fun in your lesson and feel free to ask questions after it, if you have any!

Test students may be offered an additional 30 minutes (after a 10 minute wrap-up with the Master Teacher) as a token of appreciation to thank you for your help.
