How to Prepare for Your First In-Person Singing Lesson

If you’re here, chances are that you just made a booking with one of our coaches for a lesson at our studio. Congrats on taking the first step towards better singing!

In this post:

  • 4 sets of things to prepare for your lesson

    1. Scheduling

    2. Songs

    3. Water

    4. Dressing

  • Location

    2. Location in mall

Step 1: Scheduling

It is recommended that you reach the lesson venue around 10 minutes before your class starts. This reduces the chances of you having to rush due to unforeseen circumstances, and starting your lesson feeling stressed.

If the curtains are drawn together (closed) or if there is another lesson ongoing, please wait outside until you are asked to come in.

Even though we do our best to block in transition times and end before the next lesson, we may end up giving a student just a bit more time and end up having to start a bit later.

Sometimes it may be you, and sometimes it may be the student before you. Please understand that, and be prepared that we may start a couple minutes late!

Step 2: Prepare Two Songs

Do you want to improve your range? Strength? Stamina? Pitch?

Pick two songs (one main and one backup) that will allow us to work on that one thing that you struggle with slightly (e.g. high notes, strength, control).

If it's too easy, we won't have much to work on; and if it's too difficult, it's probably gonna take more time to see results.

Prepare:

- Backing tracks for both songs (e.g. YouTube link, or mp3 file) that the coach can play via the sound system

Step 3: Bring Water

Stay hydrated!

Step 4: Dressing

We will be taking a video of the lesson for progress-tracking purposes and for you to rewatch it after the lesson, and there’s a chance we may use parts of your lesson for online content. (i.e. feel free to dress up!)

If you are not comfortable with your video being used for content, please let us know over WhatsApp before the lesson.

Summary: Before Lesson Checklist

1. Schedule to reach 10 minutes before your lesson starts

2. Two Songs: Backing tracks (YouTube link or mp3 file) + lyrics (printed, if possible)

3. A bottle of water

4. Feel free to dress up so you look good on video!

5. Let us know in advance over WhatsApp if you’re not comfortable with your video being used for content
